The Tilston Tornado touchdown (see www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3ymPt…) was touching down about this time, maybe a few minutes earlier, to the right just out of this frame.  While I was putting up the tripod One of the "Tornado Hunters" vehicles had barreled up the grid road just west of me to get closer to the action.  After being a half mile from an earlier funnel on the way home, I let the "professionals" get into the center of things and was plenty happy to get some nice "vista" shots at the outskirts of this monster storm.

My setup location once I'd picked up my kit was maybe two roads south of Tilston and roughly at border, putting me three to four miles away on the ground from the action but also in a dry spot where the rains had already passed.  This frame is aimed roughly NNW, with N being the right edge of the frame.

The bright patches in the cloud are actually rotating holes with a clear view to blue sky - one of them was right above me over my right shoulder as I took this.  The swirl in the foreground was just coming together and starting to speed up.  The entire system was rotating, the line of holes moving away from me and overall counterclockwise to the main storm just out of frame to the right. The wind around me was calm except for occasional (strong) gusts.  There was a constant grumbling on the horizon.

What you can't get in this photo is that the horizon on the right was strobing with sheet lightning nearly constantly.  I have no idea how many flashes were occurring. A lot. I did manage to get a few direct ground strikes in frame, but no "good" photos.
